Godwin Strings, a 23-year old Violinist from Nigeria, is re-introducing a sound that is rarely heard and often misunderstood. Armed with a deep passion for world music and an equally unforgettable personality, Mr. Strings brings the violin to life recreating everything from Afrobeat to Hip Hop, Rock, and blues. He is known for mixing classical music with popular music, and performing music covers.
Born Godwin Ogechukwu, he attended Gospel Music College in Benin, from which he attained a certificate of proficiency in Music, with a Major in Instrumentation and Minor in Voice Training. In an effort to master the essential tool to making good music: Languages, he studied and graduated with a B.A. Hons in Linguistics and African Languages from the University of Benin.
Godwin’s first performance was in 2006 with CMC Philharmonic Symphony and Orchestra. In 2012, he was first runner up on Nigeria’s Got Talent, TV Show, and has since then performed at a series of events across Nigeria.
Godwin spends an average of 20 hours each week, rehearsing new music, and challenging himself to learn fresh sounds. He is currently taking production classes, and plans to produce his own music soon.
